Having a bit of trouble?

Here’s a list of answers to frequently asked questions.

FAQ Category 1: Verifying
Question:

Why do I need to verify myself to get access?

Answer:

We take the safety of our members seriously in KUDC. We ask all incoming members to verify that they are students, alumni, or faculty of Kutztown University in order to keep dangerous pedators out of our community. It also keeps people accountable for their actions. No anonymous trolls here!

Question:

How do I verify?

Answer:

We made it easy. There are three ways to verify.

Option 1: Send a photo of your school ID in the #id-verify channel and type @verify after you send the picture. Please cover the ID numbers! You may also cover the face. The pic will be deleted after you’re verified.

Option 2: Send Alexander White a private message through the student feed on the MyKU Mobile app with your discord user name in the message.

Option 3: Send the Server Director an email from your Kutztown email stating your Discord username and your full name (You may abbreviate your first name. Example: Alexander to Alex). The Director’s email is awhit045@live.kutztown.edu

If you are uncomfortable posting the image in #id-verify please send a private message to @Alex White – DIRECTOR via Discord. He is the Server Director and can privately verify you.

Question:

Does KUDC store sensitive personal information when verifying?

Answer:

No. Unless you consider your first and last name sensitive. Who do think we are? Mark Zuckerberg?

FAQ Category 2: Management
Question:

Is the KU Discord Community run by Kutztown University of Pennsylvania?

Answer:

No it is not. KUDC what created by students, and run by students. It is in no way officially affiliated or controlled by the university.

FAQ Category 3: The Rules
Question:

Rules? Why are there rules?

Answer:

Short answer is we’re not too keen on chaos. Long answer is that to create a welcoming and positive environment to build out community on, some ground rules are needed. We don’t ask a lot but we do ask you to respect the few rules we have. This ensures KUDC can thrive as a place for everyone.

Question:

No politics?

Answer:

Just like at the Thanksgiving table when alllll your extended family is over, opening up that can of worms is just a bad idea on all corners. We ask all our members to refrain from subjects relating to politics; all parties, all issues, everything. We keep it fair.

We believe voicing your opinion political on situations that upset you is important. We ask that you take such speech to other platforms though. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc.

FAQ Category 3: Discord
Question:

What the heck is a Discord?

Answer:

Okay so you know Slack? And skype? Smashem’ together and you have Discord. It’s the spiritual child of those two apps and then juiced up with steroids, constant support, and new features.

Talk, text, and video calls have never been easier with Discord, and its all free!

Question:

How do I use Discord?

Answer:

First you need to know how it works. Which is simple. It’s a stack of group chats or “channels” in a group or “server” (technically it’s a guild.) Each group chat has a purpose. General texting, pictures, memes, positive vibes, announcements, help, suggestions, and art portfolio are all examples of channels in KUDC.

KUDC has about 70 channels but you’ll never even see most of them. We have a automated system that lets you only see the channels that are important to you, like your dorm hall, your major, and a hobby or two.

To Make it even easier we designed the “KUDC Simple View” which is given to you by default when you join. This view has all the basic channels you need so you aren’t overwhelmed by the awesome first thing. ?
